Liam Gallagher: I was the cliche that made Oasis work

Liam Gallagher labelled himself as a rock ‘n’ roll “cliche” as he explained how his relationship with Noel was crucial to making Oasis work.

Despite the well-known tensions between himself and his former bandmate and big brother, he said the hit 1990s rock group would never have worked with “two Liams”.

Crediting Noel with writing the songs that made the brothers famous, the Wall Of Glass singer told GQ magazine: “That was Noel’s thing, my thing was the whole cliche: the sex, the drugs, the rock’n’roll.

“I lived it, mate, I was it, and that’s why Oasis worked. We couldn’t have both been boring f***s and neither could we have both been headcases like me.”

He added: “I know how much it annoyed him, he did the graft while I went out and undid the graft, but Oasis wouldn’t have worked with two Liams or two Noels.”

But now, with his own debut solo As You Were on the way, the 44-year-old described himself as “the real rock star” compared with his brother’s “rock star life”.
