The musician headlined the city’s Terminal 5 venue as part of his current North American tour. The stint wraps up in Philadelphia on November 30 ahead of his UK arena tour in December.
As the set was coming to a close, Gallagher allowed fans to choose the final song of the night. “What’s it gonna be then?” he said. “Apparently you Americans only know one Oasis song.” He then gave them a choice between ‘Wonderwall’ and ‘Live Forever’, gauging the desire to hear each by the volume of cheers.
Earlier in the night, Gallagher had opened his set with ‘Rock’n’Roll Star’ and ‘Morning Glory’, before bringing songs from his debut solo album ‘As You Were‘ into the mix. Between ‘Bold’ and ‘For What It’s Worth’, he paused to ask the audience: “Any Adele fans here? You lot fucking love her.”
Ahead of ‘Some Might Say’, he referenced a disparaging term his brother Noel had used against fans who had slated his recent single ‘Holy Mountain’. “Any parka monkeys in the house?” Liam asked, with huge cheers rising up from the crowd.
‘Slide Away’ and ‘Be Here Now’ also featured in the setlist alongside Liam’s solo tracks ‘Come Back To Me’ and ‘Better Run’. After a short break, he and his band returned to the stage for an encore. The singer dedicated the first song, ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’ to two young fans down the front before closing on ‘Live Forever’. “Take care of yourselves, I’ll see you down the road,” he told the 3,000-strong crowd as he departed the stage.
