On Monday Noel Gallagher, who was in Melbourne because of the tour of his new band, the High Flying Birds, was invited to join the City entourage for the match at AAMI Park Stadium.
Gallagher, who is a lifelong supporter of Manchester City, Melbourne City’s parent club, joined in the regular pre-match hoopla including tossing the coin before their clash with Wellington.
While the former Oasis was there, unexpectedly the audience started singing Wonderwall, the best known and most famous tune of the Mancunian band.
As the home fans started singing Gallagher smiled.
Apparently the hymn has been very lucky for Melbourne City team which disposed of the Phoenix 3-0.
