Alan McGee believes Liam Gallagher could sell out Knebworth on his own, 25 years after Oasis‘ legendary concerts.
The Manchester band performed for 250,000 fans over two nights in August 1996 at the Hertfordshire venue.
McGee, who signed Oasis to his label Creation Records, said Gallagher could fill the venue solo.
“Liam can do it, it’s only 125,000 people,” he said on the “Phil Taggart’s Slacker” podcast.
He added:
“I’d say he’s almost as big as Oasis. Liam is massive at this point.”
McGee: “Liam Gallagher Is an Exceptional Singer”
McGee praised Liam Gallagher:
“From day one, he thought he was great, and he is a great singer. One of the best I’ve worked with.”
He also talked about a possible Oasis reunion. The band split in 2009 after a backstage fight between Liam and his brother Noel Gallagher at “Rock En Seine Festival” in France.
“They’re brothers, so you never know. Maybe one day they’ll make up,” he said. “I hope they do.”
McGee: “I Haven’t Seen Liam in Years”
The music mogul said he is still close to Noel, but he hasn’t seen Liam in years.
“Liam recently threatened to beat me up. I don’t know what happened, I didn’t talk to him,” he said. “The next day, he said he loved me, so who knows what happened.”
Liam Gallagher: “Playing Knebworth? Easy!”
Last year, Gallagher said he could play Knebworth solo, with or without an Oasis reunion.
“I could do it easily!” he told NME.
“Knebworth? It would be a piece of piss, to be honest. And it’s definitely gonna happen.”
In 2019, Gallagher teased a return to the iconic venue with a tweet:
“Anybody fancy Knebworth next summer? C’mon, you know.”
Former Oasis guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs replied with a simple:
“Me.”
