Bono reveals Noel Gallagher is “shocked” by how great is Oasis sound

Bono reveals Noel Gallagher is “shocked” by how great Oasis sound ahead of their reunion tour. Liam, Noel, Gem, Bonehead, and Andy Bell are all returning.

Noel Gallagher feels shocked by how powerful Oasis sound, according to Bono. The U2 frontman shared the update during his recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1.

“I just love them,” said Bono. “They grooved more than anyone and sounded rawer than the rest. Noel messaged me, saying he feels shocked by how great the band sounds during rehearsals.”

The Oasis reunion tour will start next month in Cardiff, marking their first shows together in 16 years. Bono confirmed his attendance and spoke about their impact on indie music in the ‘90s.

“They erased the preciousness in indie. They brought swagger and grit. Their music sounded like escape, not glamor,” he said. “Those loud, Neil Young-inspired guitars broke all the UK’s unspoken rules. But they didn’t care. They played what they liked.”

Bono and The Edge met Liam and Noel Gallagher around the release of Definitely Maybe in 1994. During a visit to Noel’s flat, they received a characteristically cool welcome.

Bono believes this tour will finally give Oasis a breakthrough in the United States. “This could become their first big US tour,” he said. “People don’t realise how incredible they truly are.”

The U2 singer also talked about his longtime friendship with Noel. In 2023, Noel attended Bono’s Stories of Surrender show and later joked that Bono had “lost the plot.”

Oasis and U2 share history. Oasis opened for U2 in 1997, and Noel Gallagher joined the band again on their 2017 tour as a solo artist. Noel later described the experience as brilliant and praised the Irish for their spirit—while joking about their drinking habits.

The Oasis reunion lineup includes Liam, Noel, Gem Archer, Bonehead, and Andy Bell. Joe Waronker will play drums, joining as one of the “new faces” Liam teased earlier this year.

Richard Ashcroft and Cast will open the shows. Recently, Andy Bell entered a London studio alongside the band, confirming his return.

The buzz continues to grow. If Noel Gallagher feels amazed, fans should expect something extraordinary.
