Liam Gallagher pays tribute to tragic young Celtic fan James Morrison during TRNSMT gig

Liam Gallagher took time out of his TRNSMT set to pay tribute to a young Scot who died in a horror road accident.

The Oasis frontman paused on Saturday night to dedicate a song to James Morrison, from Fife.

The popular teen was killed just four days before he turned 16 after being hit by a taxi as he walked home from a party.

His pals took to Twitter to urge Liam to play his song ‘Little James’ or ‘Champagne Supernova’ as a tribute to their friend.

One tweeted: “One of my good friends sadly lost his life this weekend in a tragic accident that saw him getting run over by a mini bus and killed. It has affected my whole community and everyone is distraught and heartbroken by it.

“A massive group of us are heading to TRNSMT to watch you on the 30th and it would mean the world if you could play Champagne Supernova and dedicate it to James Morrison.

“He was 15 years old and died 4 days before his 16th birthday. It would mean the world to me and countless others.”

While another wrote: “Hope you see this, please play little James at trnsmt and dedicate it to James Morrison, would be an amazing send off for him.”

And thousands of fans cheered as Liam paused between songs to pay his own tribute at Glasgow Green.

He said: “I keep getting this thing on the Twitter about some kid called James up here this neck of the woods who passed away and they wanted me to play Little James but I don’t know if I could go there.

“So I dedicate Live Forever to the man anyway.”

James suffered serious injuries after he was hit by the Renault Traffic MPV on the B925 two weeks ago.

Emergency services attended but he died at the scene. The driver and passengers in the taxi were uninjured.

In a statement issued through Police Scotland, his family said: “James was a caring fun loving son, grandson and brother who would do anything for anybody.

“He will be truly missed by his family and friends.

“The family wish to express their thanks for the messages they have received and they wish to be left to come to terms with their loss.”

His sister, Tammi, said James was her “wee best pal from birth”, adding: “A bond that can’t be broken. I will love and miss him everyday.”

Liam’s set had earlier been stopped after a fan climbed to the top of a pole and refused to come down.

The crowd booed as sound controllers cut the music in a bid to get the man down.

Liam shouted at the yob through the microphone: “Jump or get down.”

Refusing to climb back down the pole the man and the global superstar had a standoff as fans below started throwing bottles at him.

He later climbed down into the arms of waiting police.

Police made eight other arrests at the festival and over 30 people were refused entry to the site after being caught with drugs.

Superintendent David Pettigrew, Police Scotland added: “The behaviour of festival-goers at TRNSMT has been overwhelmingly positive.”
