Noel Gallagher says he only had pre-gig nerves during Oasis’ final days. Discover his full Radio X interview here.
The former Oasis guitarist spoke to Radio X about the topic.
Interviewed by Dan O’Connell, Gallagher said he never usually feels pre-show nerves.
His recent comments came ahead of his headline set at On The Beach, Brighton.
When asked about nerves, he replied: “No. No. It really f***ing annoys people as well. Never.”
However, Gallagher admitted things were different towards Oasis’ end.
He explained: “Towards the end of Oasis, you stepped into the unknown.
The tambourine player was a bit of a loose cannon. You wondered if the gig would even finish.”
Gallagher added that he now has a stable band around him.
“You put a band together. You know it’s cool. I don’t get nervous at all,” he said.
He also reflected on his stage persona.
“I’m not cut out to be a larger-than-life character on stage,” Gallagher admitted.
He continued: “Chris Martin can do that with the crowd. Bono can do that. I can’t. I’m not interested in it.”
The DJ pointed out how fans react to Don’t Look Back In Anger.
Gallagher responded: “That song is bigger than me. It’ll be around long after I’m gone.”
He added: “Wonderwall and other big songs don’t require me to act larger than life.”
Finally, Gallagher summed up his approach:
“People are here to see me. They know who I am. There’s nothing better on this beach today than being me.
That’s what you pay for, and that’s what you get.”
