Noel Gallagher has said that he and his brother Liam consider themselves to be Irish and there’s no English blood in him.
The Oasis musicians were raised in the UK by Mayo woman Peggy Gallagher and their father Tommy.
And although the brothers grew up in Manchester, Noel has revealed that they feel strongly connected to their Irish roots.
“We are Irish, me and Liam, there is no English blood in us, and anybody who knows that will know there is drinking and then there is Irish drinking. Irish drinking can be endless.”
“Oasis could never have existed, been as big, been as important, been as flawed, been as loved and loathed, if we weren’t all predominantly Irish.”
The 54-year-old recalled some fond memories of playing The Point Theatre in Dublin with his mother cheering her sons on in the crowd.
“I remember those gigs at The Point being, like, wildly emotional with the crowd and all that.”
“I remember it being breath-taking, the energy and the vibe in the room, it was unbelievable. You could feel it, and it was almost like we were not worthy of that.”
Continuing, he said:
“Mam’s not impressed by all this rock-and-roll business. She is proud and all that, but I guess there are some bits where she’s completely and utterly just gone, ‘You f***ing knobheads,’ cringed and rightly so.”
“I wanted to make her proud. I speak to me mam three or four times a day. So I’d be always reassuring her.
“Mam was an angel, still is,” Noel added.
