According to the Oasis legend and devoted Manchester City fan, Guardiola told him “we’re going to win the league, no question” — before a single ball was kicked.
That season, Manchester City delivered a historic campaign, winning the Premier League and the Carabao Cup while smashing multiple records.
Guardiola’s Bold Prediction
Speaking on Drivetime, Gallagher recalled:
“I hope he doesn’t mind me saying this… On the eve of the season, I texted him good luck. And he replied saying, ‘We’re going to win the league, no question.’”
At the time, there were doubts.
Guardiola’s first season at City had been trophyless — the only time in his managerial career that happened. City fans worried he may have overestimated the challenge.
But everything changed in 2017/18.
Guardiola got the players he wanted, implemented his system, and built a side that was nearly unbeatable.
