Noel Gallagher has revealed that he’s finally getting driving lessons at the age of 53.

The former Oasis guitarist and High Flying Birds frontman shared the news in a recent interview, surprising fans who assumed he already had his license. Despite decades of international touring and rock star living, Noel Gallagher has never sat behind the wheel—until now.
“I’ve had to bite the bullet,” he said.
“I’m finally learning to drive.”
Noel Gallagher explained that the decision came down to lifestyle changes. The pandemic gave him more time at home and fewer distractions. It also made him reflect on the everyday things he had put off.
“It’s embarrassing, really,” he added.
“Everyone just assumed I could drive. I never needed to.”
He admitted that being in a band meant always having drivers, so there was never a reason to learn. Now, with more time on his hands, he’s decided to pick up the skill many fans assumed he already had.
Learning at 53 might seem late, but Noel Gallagher isn’t alone. Many adults decide to get their driver’s license later in life, often for freedom, convenience, or necessity.
The singer joked that his lessons were going “alright,” though he confessed he wasn’t a natural behind the wheel. Still, fans were quick to praise him for giving it a go.
For a man who’s written some of the most iconic anthems of the last 30 years, it’s refreshing to see Noel Gallagher tackle something so ordinary—and do it with his trademark honesty.
Whether it’s on stage or on the road, Noel Gallagher continues to surprise.
