Noel Gallagher teases Robert Smith remix of ‘Pretty Boy’ that “sounds exactly like The Cure”.
Noel Gallagher has teased the upcoming remix of his song Pretty Boy, reworked by Robert Smith of The Cure.
The track will appear on the deluxe edition of Council Skies, the fourth album by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, out June 2 via Sour Mash.
Robert Smith Adds His Signature Sound to Pretty Boy
During an interview with Huw Stephens on BBC Radio Wales, Gallagher shared how the collaboration happened.
“Pretty Boy, as it unfolded, became reminiscent of the golden age of The Cure,” Gallagher explained.
He had a spontaneous idea: “I wondered if Robert Smith would get involved.”
Gallagher sent the track to Smith, who loved it and agreed to do the remix.
“It Sounds Exactly Like The Cure,” Says Gallagher
Gallagher praised the result, saying the remix “sounds exactly like The Cure.”
“I’d never met him before, never even spoken to him,” he admitted. “But I was always a fan of The Cure. Turns out, he’s a bit of a dude!”
The singer also praised Smith’s live vocals after attending one of The Cure’s recent London shows.
“They were amazing,” Gallagher said. “It’s dark and moody, and his voice sounds as good as it did 30 years ago.”
It remains unconfirmed if Robert Smith added any vocals to the remix.
Pretty Boy Inspired by The Cure From the Start
Gallagher first revealed in 2020 that Pretty Boy had clear influences from The Cure.
“I’ve written a tune that sounds very much like The Cure,” he shared. “And I didn’t even have to dial back the copyright!”
Council Skies Deluxe Edition Packed With Remixes
The deluxe edition of Council Skies features several live sessions, instrumentals, and remixes.
Alongside Robert Smith’s remix, there are new versions by the Pet Shop Boys and David Holmes.
The album arrives June 2, with pre-orders available now.
