Noel Gallagher has revealed he wrote enough music during the pandemic for two entire albums.
The former Oasis guitarist crafted much of his current album “Council Skies” during lockdown. But that’s only part of the story. He says there’s more — including an acoustic album and a stadium-rock record.
“There is an acoustic album, very stripped back, which I started recording recently,” he told Rolling Stone. “And then there’s a very heavily guitar-based, stadium-rock album.”
Noel said the pandemic had a huge impact on his creative process. Speaking to Radio X’s Johnny Vaughan, he admitted: “Yeah, I didn’t realise it at the time. But when I put it all together, the vibe and lyrics felt reflective. It was a reflective time for everyone. None of us had ever lived through a pandemic.”
He added: “We didn’t know what it was or how we’d gotten into it or how we were going to get out. Watching the news, the conspiracy theories — all that. I’d lock myself in my room and think, ‘What on earth is going on?’ Some of that is in the songs.”
Noel Gallagher, who spent lockdown in Hampshire, said being a songwriter helped him process those strange times.
“As a writer and artist, I think we navigated it better,” he reflected. “You could write about it. You could make sense of it.”
He also noted how the pandemic changed his lyrics. “I had to rewrite a lot. Many were about going outside and all that.”
The result? A collection of songs that are both personal and powerful — and more new music than fans might expect.
