Noel Gallagher teased Robert Smith remix of ‘Pretty Boy’: “Sounds exactly like The Cure”

“I asked if he’d get involved and sent him the track. He loved it.”
Noel Gallagher has shared details about Robert Smith’s remix of ‘Pretty Boy’. He said it “sounds exactly like The Cure“.
The original track, released last October, will feature on High Flying Birds’ fourth album, ‘Council Skies’. The album drops on June 2 via Sour Mash (pre-order here).
The deluxe edition will include live sessions, instrumentals, and three remixes by Pet Shop Boys, David Holmes, and Smith.

During an interview with Huw Stephens on BBC Radio Wales (Music Radar), Gallagher explained how he collaborated with The Cure’s frontman.
“‘Pretty Boy’ started sounding like the golden age of The Cure,” he said. “One night, I thought: ‘I wonder if Robert Smith would join. I wonder if I can reach him’.”
Gallagher added: “I asked if he’d join and sent him the track. He loved it. He remixed it. And I loved it. I had never met or spoken to him before. But I was always a The Cure fan. The remix sounds exactly like them. Yeah, he’s a cool guy!”
The singer-songwriter also praised Smith’s voice after watching The Cure live in London.
“They were amazing,” Gallagher said. “I like their newer music too. It’s dark and moody. But his voice is incredible. He sounds as good as 30 years ago. Amazing.”
Gallagher didn’t confirm if Smith contributed vocals to the remix.
The former Oasis songwriter first mentioned the Cure-inspired ‘Pretty Boy’ in 2020. “I wrote a track that sounds just like The Cure. And I didn’t need to tweak anything. It just sounds like them.”
Gallagher will showcase ‘Council Skies’ at outdoor UK headline gigs this summer. Check the full schedule here.
