The Oasis reunion has long seemed impossible. But according to Katrina Russell, it is only a matter of time.
Liam and Noel Gallagher famously split 11 years ago after an explosive fallout. The world’s biggest band of the decade collapsed overnight.
It all began in August 2009 at the V Festival in Chelmsford. Liam was diagnosed with laryngitis. But Noel accused him of having a hangover. Legal action followed, with Liam demanding a public apology.
Though the lawsuit ended after Noel apologised, tensions remained. Just weeks later, disaster struck at the Rock en Seine festival. The band’s manager cancelled their set minutes before showtime.
Two hours later, Noel announced his shock departure, writing:
“It is with some sadness and great relief… I quit Oasis tonight.”
Since then, the Gallagher brothers have traded insults. A reunion looked unlikely.
But Katrina Russell, a key figure behind Oasis’ rise, says otherwise.
Known as Kat, she played a huge role in managing Oasis during their peak. A major player at Creation Records, she worked closely with Alan McGee, the man who signed Oasis, Primal Scream, and My Bloody Valentine.
Her connection to the band came through Meg Matthews, Noel’s first wife and Kat’s best friend.
Kat recalled:
“The moment I heard Live Forever, I knew. This was the future.”
She was soon working for Creation Records, immersed in the wild world of Supernova Heights, Noel’s legendary London home.
Kat remembers the infamous Gallagher rows well:
“You had to hide under the desks when they kicked off. But that was part of the charm.”
In her eyes, their differences caused the rift.
“Noel is actually quiet and shy despite the bravado. Liam’s a lovely, real guy. He’d sit in a pub with you and chat normal stuff.
“Noel wanted the celebrity life. Hanging out with famous people, trying to be Paul Weller. They’re very different.”
Despite this, Kat insists a reunion is inevitable.
“The fans will get a reunion at some point. Blood is thicker than water. They’re brothers.
“It doesn’t matter what the wives or journalists say. What they went through together is unique.
“It won’t be a world tour, but there’ll be a big gig.”
Now living in Cornwall, Kat has stepped away from the industry. But her passion for music remains.
She recently discovered Penny Eyes, a local band she believes could be the next Oasis.
“What I see in Penny Eyes reminds me of Noel’s songwriting. The quality is incredible.”
For Oasis fans still dreaming of a reunion, Kat’s words offer new hope.
