Robert De Niro talked about when he had lunch with Noel Gallagher: “Did I listen to Oasis? No!”

One of Noel Gallagher‘s favorite stories is about a long lunch with Robert De Niro in the south of France. The actor didn’t know Oasis, but in a recent NME interview, he admitted he is now more familiar with the band. However, he hasn’t explored their music catalog yet.

Noel Gallagher first shared their meeting on Instagram in 2016. He posted a photo of them at a table, writing: “We’ve been in the South of France for a few days, and at a 17-hour lunch at a friend’s house, THIS actually happened!”.

Later, he told TalkSport the lunch was at a mutual friend’s house, reportedly Bono from U2. They talked for hours, with Gallagher asking De Niro about “Raging Bull” and “Goodfellas”. They also discussed Donald Trump, with De Niro harshly criticizing him. Before leaving, the actor asked Gallagher to write down his band’s name.

In an interview promoting “The Alto Knights”, De Niro laughed when asked if he listened to Oasis, replying: “No!”.

Although he hasn’t heard songs like “Rock ‘N’ Roll Star” and “Talk Tonight”, De Niro is aware of Noel and Liam Gallagher’s reunion. NME recently revealed the band lineup for their summer tour.

“A friend told me they’re getting back together, and it’s a big deal,” said De Niro.

The actor never followed the Britpop era. He named Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Nat King Cole as his favorite artists. “I used to listen to rock and roll as a teenager, but now I prefer nostalgic music,” he added.

During the interview, Debra Messing, co-star in “The Alto Knights”, paid tribute to Barbra Streisand and her 1964 album “Funny Girl”. “That movie made me believe I could become an actress,” she said.

“The Alto Knights” is now in theaters.
