Weller and Marr: “Noel Gallagher doesn’t need to reform Oasis.”

Johnny Marr and Paul Weller have praised Noel Gallagher, declaring that “he doesn’t need to reform Oasis“.

The two guitar legends, who have collaborated with Gallagher, claim that his recent Number One album “Chasing Yesterday” and his current live setup showcase some of his best work.

“I don’t care if Oasis reunite or not, I like what he’s doing now,” Weller told NME, weeks after Gallagher joked that the former Jam man would “smash his windows” if that happened.

Weller added: “I think he keeps getting better. His new album is amazing”.

Marr said: “When I played with him recently [Marr joined Gallagher on stage at Manchester Arena last month], it was interesting to see how he filled the arena by creating a new kind of music. He still delivers big melodies, powerful choruses, and deep emotion. But it’s something new”.

The pair also stated that Gallagher has become an institution in British music over the past 21 years.

Marr added: “He’s a songwriter, he’s been around for years, and he’s a bit of a, what’s the term?”.

Weller: “Wanker?”.

“Ha, no, a national treasure,” Marr laughed. “He’s just someone you share something with. When you love music and playing music, meeting someone with the same passion cuts through the nonsense. Gallagher has always been the same”.

He added: “Like Paul and me, Noel is someone who won’t disappear, whether he’s successful or not. It’s what he does. He’s a lifer. Everyone knows that. He takes his work seriously”.

Weller also revealed that he plans to finish a new track with Noel Gallagher when they have the chance.

“The biggest challenge is keeping him in the studio long enough,” he added.

He continued: “We were trying to write a song for my new album, but he was there for just a few hours. He seemed eager to leave before five o’clock. We started a track, but we just need to sit down and finish it”.

Marr and Weller recently discussed the possibility of working together on new music after their recent performance in London, saying it’s something they “definitely hope to do”.
