Bonehead talks about Oasis, The Stone Roses & more

Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs, founding guitarist of Oasis, recently opened up about the band’s roots and the influence of The Stone Roses.

Bonehead on Oasis and Manchester’s Music Scene

Speaking during Tim Burgess’ popular Listening Party series on Twitter, Bonehead shared memories from Oasis early days. While listening to the band’s iconic debut “Definitely Maybe”, he discussed the atmosphere in Manchester when The Stone Roses were changing the game.

“It was a huge time for Manchester. The Stone Roses were massive—everyone was talking about them,” Bonehead recalled.

He emphasized how the energy of the era shaped Oasis, pushing them to stand out and create something timeless.

Influence of The Stone Roses

Bonehead admitted that The Stone Roses had a major influence on their attitude. Not necessarily musically, but in the confidence and culture they helped build.

“They gave us belief,” he said. “They didn’t care what people thought, and we loved that.”

The Madchester wave paved the way for Oasis to come in loud, bold, and unafraid.

Tim Burgess’ Listening Party Brings Back Memories

Tim Burgess, frontman of The Charlatans, launched the Listening Party project during the UK’s lockdown in 2020. It allowed fans to revisit classic albums in real time with commentary from the artists themselves.

When “Definitely Maybe” played, Bonehead shared behind-the-scenes insights, trivia, and even joked with fans.

“We didn’t know we were making history,” he tweeted. “We just thought it sounded f***ing great.”
