Johnny Marr says he’s often mistaken for Noel Gallagher

Johnny Marr has revealed he is often mistaken for Noel Gallagher.

The Smiths legend, who recently attended a Manchester City match with Gallagher, suggested this is because the Oasis songwriter has become so recognisable that he’s now everyone’s go-to guitarist.

Marr said in an interview on Gallagher’s Facebook page: “If I’m walking around – if not every week, then every month, and sometimes every week, someone says to me, ‘Are you Noel Gallagher?’”

“I’m obviously not Noel,” Marr continued. “But it’s because I look like a guitar player. So he’s become the sort of generic term for rock musician, and I’m all-right with that. Sometimes [when they ask], I go, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah.’”

However, Marr also admitted that he sometimes gives a different response to the question. “Occasionally now some little kid in Manchester will ask, ‘Are you Noel Gallagher?’ And I’ll say, ‘Look, you know I’m not Noel Gallagher right, ’cause he’s so recognisable.’ So they go, ‘Who are you then?’ That’s the other thing I get.”
