Liam Gallagher has described the moment he took a combine harvester so that he could go on a midnight spying mission.
The Oasis frontman was in the process of laying down the tracks for the band’s defining debut, Definitely Maybe, when he decided that he wanted to see what Stone Roses were up to.
His fellow Mancunians were at their countryside recording studio when Liam thought he would see what they were up to in the dead of night and there was only one vehicle available to help do the job.
Speaking in an interview for BBC Four show Rockfield: The Studio On The Farm, Liam revealed how he took the huge farm vehicle on a rumble through the countryside to the band’s studio in Monmouthshire.
Recalling the moment in 1993, Liam said: “We went to have a f***ing little snoop.
“It was, ‘Right, what the f*** are they up to?’ as they hadn’t been doing anything for three years.
“I’m on about a proper combine harvester — ones you’ve got to get a ladder up to and it’s miles up.
“Off we f***ing go, crawling down the road with the big f***ing lights on. It looked bonkers.”
Liam continued: “We drove it in, turned the lights off and rolled out like something out of The Professionals.
“We could hear some f***ing bassline and drums. We got caught, we went in and had a little chat.
“We might have had a spliff and that and then we f***ing f***ed off.”
Liam said that Stone Roses repayed the visit 24 hours later but they were not so successful.
He added: “Next night they came over on a tractor. We were in bed.”
