In his latest interview with Hot Press, Noel Gallagher talked about a 15-minute real-time conversation with David Bowie.
He told: βOnce, and then again virtually. He won a Brit Award for, I dunno, being the Best David Bowie of Alltime, couldnβt be there and asked me and Kate Moss to say something on his behalf, which we did. The next day I’m recovering on the sofa going, ‘Owwwwwwwwww, me head!’ – I hadn’t got back ’til nine in the morning – and get an email saying, βHi, itβs David. Thanks for the shout out the other night.β I reply going, βFucking nice one, man, blah blah blahβ and we have a kind of 15-minute real-time conversation. Iβm thinking, βWow, David Bowieβs in a coffee shop in New York somewhere talking to me. I can live with this!β
βI came downstairs one day and my missus, Sara, said, βDavid Bowieβs got a new single out.β Iβm like, βAre you sure it wasnβt βHeroesβ?β She shoots back: βI know what fucking βHeroesβ sounds like and it isnβt that!β Nothing will match the jaw-dropping moment of going online and playing βThe Stars (Are Out Tonight)β for the first time. Iβm lying on my bed listening to it, get to the end and think, βHang on, it canβt be that good, Iβve got to listen to it again!β I must have played the album 20 days in a row when it came out. I obsessed over it.β
