Noel Gallagher recently admitted that American music fans were “not impressed” by his Oasis legacy. The former guitarist and chief songwriter of Oasis reflected on his experience touring the US with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

He explained that Americans didn’t care much about his past success with Oasis. During an appearance on comedian Matt Morgan’s podcast, Noel shared that he once believed Oasis were a global phenomenon.

But when he played in America post-Oasis, he realized something. “They were like, ‘Yeah, so what?’” said Gallagher. “They weren’t impressed.”

The reaction shocked him. He had assumed the fame would carry over easily. It didn’t.

Gallagher described the American audience as more focused on current music than past glories. “They wanted to know what I was doing now,” he added.

This forced Noel Gallagher to prove himself all over again. “I had to start from scratch,” he said. “There was no free pass.”

He compared the attitude in America with British audiences. In the UK, his Oasis reputation still resonates strongly.

Gallagher said that playing small venues again was humbling. But he also found it creatively refreshing. “There’s no pressure,” he said. “You just do your thing.”

Despite this, he continues to tour and release music with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. The band’s sound is different from Oasis, but still draws loyal fans.

Today, Gallagher sees the American response as a valuable lesson. “You can’t live on past success forever,” he concluded.
