Noel Gallagher believes Liverpool ’s best years are behind them, following Manchester City‘s recent victory.
Since the start of the 2018/19 season, Liverpool and City have been fierce rivals. Their title race in 2018/19 ended with Pep Guardiola‘s side winning by just one point.
Jurgen Klopp’s team then triumphed in the Champions League. They used this success to push for another Premier League title, which they clinched with seven games left last year.
However, this season, Liverpool‘s form has worsened, and they’ve fallen out of the title race. A 4-1 defeat to City at Anfield further highlighted their decline.
They now look like a shadow of the team from the previous seasons. Gallagher suggests this defeat signals the end of an era for the Merseysiders.
The Man City superfan shared his thoughts on talkSPORT: “When you win, it marks the end of something, not the beginning. You have to go again.”
Noel Gallagher believes Liverpool ’s best years are behind them, following Manchester City‘s recent victory.
He added, “I never thought I’d see City win a title, let alone back-to-back titles.”
“Liverpool’s best years were spent reaching that level. Now they’re there, I think they’re done.”
Gallagher was in high spirits, as City won their first game at Liverpool‘s home since 2003. The Premier League title now seems very much within City‘s grasp.
He was also smug about those who claimed Liverpool had been better than City over the past four years. During that period, City won six major trophies, while Liverpool only won two.
Gallagher added, “For the last 48 hours, all I’ve heard is Liverpool were the best team in England for the past four years. It’s inevitable…”
“But if that’s true, they must have won a ton of trophies. I can count one!”
“So, you’re saying City was the second-best team in England for the last four years, but we won six trophies. I stopped counting after that!”
“I don’t know where all this nonsense came from, but Liverpool would have to go a long way to be worse champions than we were in the ’60s when we won one year and got relegated the next.”
