Noel Gallagher misgenders Sam Smith calling them a “f**king idiot”.

During a radio interview about the ‘current state’ of music, Noel Gallagher misgenders Sam Smith as he calls them a “f**king idiot“.

Noel Gallagher has sparked controversy after misgendering Sam Smith during a foul-mouthed radio interview.

The former Oasis frontman criticised the “current state” of the music industry and singled out Smith for harsh comments.

Speaking to Dutch radio station Kink, Gallagher expressed frustration with today’s pop music.

“Music has become fractured. Chart music is dominated by pop,” he said. “Pop music is alright if the pop stars are cool. Sadly, the stars of today are f***ing idiots.”

When asked for examples, Gallagher replied: “Sam Smith.”

Noel Gallagher Ignores Sam Smith’s Pronouns

Gallagher appeared to disregard Smith’s gender identity, saying: “Look at him!”

Sam Smith, aged 30, publicly came out as non-binary in September 2019. They changed their pronouns to they/them after what they described as a “lifetime of being at war” with their gender.

“I’ve decided to embrace myself for who I am,” Smith wrote in an emotional Instagram post.

While many supported Smith’s announcement, misgendering continues to happen—both in the media and in public life.

Ongoing Struggles for Sam Smith

Smith has been open about the challenges they face as a non-binary person.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Smith revealed ongoing public harassment.

“I think all the only negatives in the struggle have been in my public life and my job,” they explained.

“The amount of hate and s***ness that came my way was exhausting.”

Smith also shared a disturbing incident. “Someone spat at me in the street. It’s crazy. If that’s happening to me, a famous pop star, imagine what other queer kids are feeling.”

Smith added that, thankfully, their personal life remains positive and supportive.

Past Incidents of Misgendering

Sadly, Noel Gallagher is not the first celebrity to misgender Smith.

Earlier this year, Bob Geldof and Alex Jones made similar mistakes during television interviews.

Despite public education efforts, misgendering remains a common challenge for non-binary people like Smith.

Music Industry Divided

Gallagher’s remarks have reignited debate over respect and representation in the music industry.

While he criticised the “state of pop music,” many believe such comments reflect a deeper issue around acceptance and inclusivity.
