Noel Gallagher says he impersonated David Bowie to write new songs

Noel Gallagher says he impersonated David Bowie to write songs for his next album.

Noel Gallagher says he impersonated David Bowie while writing new tracks for his upcoming High Flying Birds album.
The new project follows 2017’s “Who Built The Moon?” and explores a lush orchestral direction.

Noel Gallagher Inspired by Bowie’s Voice

Noel Gallagher revealed he used David Bowie’s voice to shape some of his new material.
Speaking to the Daily Star’s Wired column, he described doing Bowie impressions late at night.

“If this song sounds like David Bowie, then I’m going to sing it like David Bowie,” he said.

One track, “Pretty Boy,” reflects this Bowie-inspired approach.
Back in 2020, he said “Pretty Boy” also sounded “very much like The Cure.”

“Dead To The World” and Orchestral Vibes

The new High Flying Birds album features ten songs, with six including orchestral strings and choirs.
One track, “Dead To The World,” is described by Gallagher as one of his best songs ever.

“There’s a vibe to the whole album,” he noted.
“I just heard strings and choirs in my head when writing these songs.”

Gallagher finished writing and demoing the album just before Christmas 2024.
He said the new material has received emotional responses from early listeners.

“Bowie-esque” and “Stones-y” Sound

Besides Bowie, Gallagher also drew inspiration from The Rolling Stones.
He called parts of the new record both “Bowie-esque” and “Stones-y.”

The album reportedly took about a year to write.
Gallagher seems eager to complete it so he can start working on more songs.
