When Diego Maradona threatened to have Oasis shot

One year after Diego Maradona passing, we revisit Liam Gallagher wild story about when the footballer threatened to have Oasis shot.

The Death of Diego Maradona

On 25 November 2020, legendary footballer Diego Maradona died at 60. Many consider him one of the greatest players ever.

Maradona played for Napoli and Barcelona and was famous for the “Hand of God” incident in the 1986 World Cup. That controversial goal helped eliminate England from the tournament. His second goal in that match is still called the greatest ever.

Liam Gallagher‘s Crazy Encounter with Maradona

Fans remember Maradona, but many also recall his wildest moments. One such story involves Liam Gallagher, who claimed Maradona once threatened him and Noel Gallagher.

In 2017, Liam Gallagher told Noisey about a night in Argentina when Oasis performed there. After the show, the band relaxed at a bar when a large group entered.

“We thought, ‘Who the f**k is that?’” recalled Liam. “It was Maradona.”

The Wild Party with Maradona

According to Liam, Maradona went upstairs with “madheads” and several women. Oasis wanted to meet him, so they asked their interpreter.

The interpreter returned, saying, “Only the Gallagher brothers can go in.”

So, Liam and Noel entered. Inside, Maradona was in the center of the room, performing football tricks with a bottle cap. He was sweating and looked wild.

His eyes were huge, and so were Liam’s. “It felt dodgy, so I said, ‘Let’s take a quick picture and leave.’”

Then Maradona spoke to the interpreter. The brothers asked what he said.

The reply? “He told me to tell you if you leave with any of these b*tches, he’ll have you shot.”

The Gallagher brothers quickly left—without any trouble.
