Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs says neither he nor Liam Gallagher would accept a knighthood. The former Oasis guitarist shared his thoughts on Radio X.
Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs has made it clear: he would not accept a knighthood. And he says Liam Gallagher wouldn’t either.
The former Oasis rhythm guitarist was a guest host on Bonehead’s Bank Holiday on Radio X, aired on Monday 8th May.
During the two-hour show, Toby Tarrant jokingly suggested the title “Sir Bonehead.”
The guitarist responded firmly:
“Probably got a good ring to it, but no I wouldn’t take it. Not that I’m anti royal or anti-this, no I just wouldn’t do it. Why? What for?”
He continued:
“It’s not right. I wouldn’t have it and I don’t think Liam [Gallagher] would have it… Noel would, wouldn’t he?”
When asked again if Liam would refuse such an honour, he was adamant:
“Absolutely not. Liam wouldn’t take it, no. Sir Liam Gallagher. It sounds good though, doesn’t it? It sounds good but he wouldn’t have it.”
The show aired as a Bank Holiday special celebrating the coronation of King Charles III.
It also stemmed from a recent incident involving the Radio X Best of British 2023 chart.
Oasis’ Live Forever was voted number one, but Bonehead felt Bonehead’s Bank Holiday deserved the top spot.
“I still stand by my thoughts on that,” he told Tarrant. “It’s a fix, right? I want steward’s enquiry.”
He added:
“I love listening to the [Best of British] Top 100 and it got me how many Oasis songs are in it… The winner’s gonna be Bonehead’s Bank Holiday. It really is!”
When the track didn’t even appear, he was gutted:
“[I was] devastated. It ruined me day! I thought. I’m gonna have to tweet you.”
The show turned out to be a nostalgic treat. Bonehead shared memories from Oasis’ heyday, including the biggest Liam-Noel fight and how they teased John Squire about his fear of cucumbers.
He also gave fans a positive update on his health.
Bonehead may not be keen on royal honours, but he’s clearly earned a crown in the hearts of Oasis fans.
