Dua Lipa said that 90s bands like Oasis and Blur behaviour were “obnoxious”.

The Dance the Night singer said she took inspiration from them for her upcoming album but never met key figures from that era.

“I haven’t met them,” she told Rolling Stone. “Sometimes, you have to separate art from the artist. I connect with the musical element. Their behavior? They were definitely obnoxious. That was always their thing.”

A different era for rock

The 28-year-old artist reflected on how the media and audiences once expected toxicity and controversy from rock stars.

“There was so much toxicity in how people wanted their artists to behave,” she said. “If they weren’t like that, they were considered boring. That’s such a bad way to see things.”

Maybe Dua Lipa has good reasons to avoid meeting Britpop icons.

Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn’s controversies

Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher and Blur frontman Damon Albarn have both made controversial comments about female pop stars.

Noel Gallagher has slammed artists like Taylor Swift and Adele, calling them “s***”. He also criticized Miley Cyrus.

According to the Daily Star, the Ballad of the Mighty I singer said:

“That awful Miley Cyrus was on TV doing some f****** s***. Even my nine-year-old asked, ‘Why is the cameraman just filming her legs?'”

He added:

“Women have been sexualized because of America. British culture would never do that. This comes from that juvenile, jock, stupid f****** culture.”

Meanwhile, Damon Albarn was widely criticized for claiming that Taylor Swift doesn’t write her own songs and that co-writing “doesn’t count”.

After reading the article, Taylor Swift slammed him:

“I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs. Your take is completely false and SO damaging. Trying to discredit my writing is really messed up.”

The Gorillaz co-creator later backtracked, but the damage was already done.

“I was misrepresented and reduced to clickbait. I apologize unreservedly,” he wrote in response to the Folklore singer.
