Liam Gallagher: Me and Noel need to make up ‘for mum’s sake’

While fans continue to hope for a reunion following the band’s acrimonious split in 2009, the brothers’ feud continues through the headlines.

At an awards ceremony on Monday, Noel spoke about his younger brother in a more conciliatory tone than on previous occasions, conceding that they would never have made it without each other.

However, he joked that Liam is “doing my thing, and I’m doing my thing too”, in reference to his younger brother singing Oasis songs at his solo gigs, and also said he would not be going to his forthcoming wedding.

Now, Liam has said he wants to “go for a beer” and try to work things out for the sake of their mother, Peggy.

“Only for the brother side of it,” he said. “Not a bit about Oasis.

“The most important thing is about me and him being brothers. I’ve got another brother who he doesn’t speak to. It would be nice if all three of us would be together.

“Obviously, our mum is still alive, so she gets upset about it.”

Liam said it was not about reforming Oasis, although he has said on several previous occasions that he would love to and that his “bags are packed” ready for Noel to say the word.

“He thinks I’m desperate to get the band back together for money,” he said. “But I didn’t join the band to make money. I joined the band to have fun and to see the world.”

Despite the calls from fans to reform, it doesn’t look like it will be happening any time soon.

Noel, 52, now performs with the High Flying Birds, while Liam, 47, has recorded two solo albums under his own name.

Earlier this year, Liam told Sky News he wanted to “break [Noel’s] jaw” when he found out he wasn’t able to use any Oasis songs in his documentary film, As It Was.

Now, he says he hopes his brother can “get off whatever’s on his chest” so they could get back together for their fans.

However, he joked that Noel would have to “get on his knees and beg for mercy” before he considered playing alongside him once again.

“Maybe bring me a cake with a little candle on it,” he said, before adding: “I’m only joking. Just for me and him to go for a beer.

“Shoot some s*** and get off whatever’s on his chest off because I don’t think we should have split up over a big argument.

“I mean, I didn’t kick his cat. I didn’t try hooking up with his Mrs or anything like that. I don’t know what his problem is.

“I think he just wanted to go away and do his solo career, get all the coin and be surrounded by all the yes men you can fire and hire whenever he wants.

“You can’t do that with me.”
