Liam Gallagher says he won’t sing The Stone Roses songs on tour with John Squire

Liam Gallagher said that he won’t sing any of The Stone Roses songs while on tour with John Squire.

Liam Gallagher has confirmed he won’t perform Oasis or The Stone Roses songs during his tour with John Squire.

The rock icons, both from legendary Manchester bands, have announced details of their self-titled album. The release will be followed by UK tour dates.

During an interview with Johnny Vaughan on Radio X, they were asked if they’d play Oasis or The Stone Roses tracks. Gallagher responded: “No, we’re not doing that. It’s just this album and maybe a few covers. Not our old bands’ songs. That would be lame.”

The “Just Another Rainbow” singer added: “No, those songs mean too much to me to sing them the wrong way. I wouldn’t mind singing Oasis tracks.”

When asked if it would feel like “big-league karaoke,” he replied: “No, but those songs mean too much to me.”

Asked about his favorite The Stone Roses song, he instantly said: “I Am The Resurrection,” adding: “Waterfall, Made of Stone, all of them. I also love the backward tracks… The Foz is beautiful.”

Liam Gallagher has often expressed his admiration for The Stone Roses, crediting them as his inspiration to form a band.

“Without a doubt. Massive,” he said. “That’s where it all started for me. First real record. That’s the foundation. Later came The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, and everything else.”

This week, the second single, “Mars To Liverpool,” was released after “Just Another Rainbow.” John Squire explained his lyric-writing process.

When asked if a rainbow inspired the song, he told Johnny Vaughan: “Probably part of it, but I didn’t see a rainbow and decide to write a song. I just let inspiration come. I sit with a guitar and let anything flow in. It could be from TV, a book, a joke, a text from Liam, or something I saw outside. There are no rules for lyrics.”

When asked what to expect from the album, the Seahorses founder simply said: “Greatness.”
