Noel Gallagher says “Oasis wouldn’t be f***ing anything if they hadn’t asked me to join”

Noel Gallagher says Oasis “wouldn’t be anything” without him. He talks Liam’s moods, Brexit, working-class youth, and no reunion.

Noel Gallagher believes Oasis would be nothing without him.

In a revealing interview, the former Oasis guitarist said the band’s success hinged on his involvement.

“Oasis wouldn’t be f*ing anything if they hadn’t asked me to join,”** Noel declared in The Big Issue.

He reflected on the stressful atmosphere in the band caused by his brother Liam.
“You never knew what mood Liam would be in,” Noel admitted. “It was really stressful.”

He found it frustrating, especially given the dreamlike opportunity they had.
“My overriding feeling was: this is just so f***ing unnecessary,” he said.

Gallagher also addressed the power imbalance within the band.

He understood why Liam might have felt out of control.
“I was writing the songs, I was directing it, I knew what I was doing.”

Noel added:
“Imagine being in a band where the guy writing the songs is just too good. What would be the point?”
Still, he balanced the critique by reinforcing his role:
“Oasis wouldn’t be anything without me.”

On Brexit, Noel Gallagher didn’t hold back either.

Calling it an “unmitigated disaster”, he lamented the decline of communities in Manchester.
“In the outskirts of Manchester, everything is boarded up,” he said.
“Youth in this country is paying the price.”

He continued, “Nothing works anymore – politics, social services – all broken.”
“Politics has come to a f***ing dead end,” the Council Skies singer added.

Noel also commented on Oasis’ lasting appeal among teens.

He believes their connection stems from a lack of new working-class voices.
“No one speaks for their culture anymore,” he said.

Despite Liam Gallagher’s 2025 tour plans for Definitely Maybe, Noel ruled out a reunion.

“There won’t be a tour,” he told Corriere Della Sera.
“We won’t come back to play them together.”

However, there is new material from the Oasis archives.
“We found tapes from the Definitely Maybe sessions. They were mislabelled. The versions are wonderful.”

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ new album Council Skies is out June 2 on Sour Mash Records.

This marks another chapter in Noel’s solo journey — separate from Oasis, but forever shaped by it.
