Liam Gallagher said that The Beatles’ final song ‘Now And Then’ is “absolutely incredible”.
Liam Gallagher has shared his thoughts on the long-awaited “final” song by The Beatles, calling it “heartwarming”.
The track is the song that Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have worked on in recent months. It originates from a demo recorded by the late John Lennon.
Titled “Now And Then”, the song was completed using AI, which isolated Lennon‘s vocals from the original tape. The band describes it as the last track featuring all Fab Four members.
Both McCartney and Starr have been teasing the project for months. They also released a short film on November 1, detailing the song’s history. The track is set for release today at 2:00 PM GMT, paired with their 1962 debut single, “Love Me Do”.
Ahead of its official release, former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher shared his emotions on X/Twitter. He called the song “incredible, biblical, celestial, heartbreaking, and heartwarming all at the same time”. He added, “Long live The Beatles“.
Replying to a fan, he commented on how emotional the process must have been for the surviving members: “Very sad but beautiful at the same time. This is life, confusingly delightful all at once”.
In a final post, he declared his love for the band, writing: “The Beatles could do anything in my handbag, and I’d still hide my mints in there”.
The Beatles hinted at the project’s arrival last week by posting cassette tape images on social media and projections in Liverpool.
The 12-minute short film aired on BBC to celebrate the band’s legacy. In the video, McCartney explains how Lennon recorded the demo in the late ’70s at his New York home. After his passing, his wife Yoko Ono gave the recording to McCartney, George Harrison, and Starr in 1994.
The surviving members, alongside producer Jeff Lynne, had recorded additional parts, but technological limitations prevented Lennon‘s vocals from being separated clearly.
McCartney said they waited nearly 25 years for the right moment to work on “Now And Then” again. His collaboration with Peter Jackson on the 2021 “Get Back” documentary convinced him they could salvage the demo.
The audio version of the song is available today at 2:00 PM GMT. The official music video, directed by Peter Jackson, will be released tomorrow, November 3.
Next week, the Beatles will release expanded editions of “1962-1966 (The Red Album)” and “1967-1970 (The Blue Album)”, in stereo and Dolby, on November 10.
As for Liam Gallagher, he will tour in 2024 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of “Definitely Maybe”. He has also teased an album with John Squire, calling it “the best record since “Revolver” by The Beatles“.
